Yacon Molasses

Origin
With constant changes in lifestyle, more people are now struggling with weight; I did for a long time before I discovered the secret. The appalling thing is that many people would like to lose weight but do not know quite how to go about it. Therefore, they are subjecting themselves to rigorous exercises that they can rarely keep up with. With the world shifting towards organic or natural products that help in weight loss are slowly gaining popularity among weight watchers. If you are looking for a healthy alternative, I can assure you that you will find Yacon molasses in the top 5 list of fat burner brands. It is extracted from the sweet roots of the Yacon plant that have been growing in Peru for many years and indigenous to the Andea Mountains. Scientifically known as Smallanthus sonchifoliu, the Yacon plant was traditionally used as a sugar substitute for tea and other foods that required a sweetener.

Properties

The fructooligosacharides (FOS) which is between 40 -50% in Yacon syrup is what makes its have a sweet taste. However, despite it being a type of sugar, FOS is not digested in the body and therefore does not elevate glucose levels in the blood. In fact, it is a prebiotic that helps to create a healthy environment in the digestive tract that allows useful bacteria to thrive. Bifidus and Lactobacillus are such bacteria found in the colon and they have been known to boost immunity and prevent inflammation. It therefore goes without saying that increasing their numbers will help you maintain a healthy weight.

Diabetics

The fact that the FOS is not absorbed into the blood system means that if you are diabetic or if you are trying to lose weight, you can actually enjoy the sweetness of this syrup without worrying about the side effects or aftermath associated with regular sugar. If you ask me, this is the best news so far in the fight against obesity! This syrup still has more properties that are quite beneficial to you because of its antioxidant and anti-microbial properties which keep away cancer and heart diseases.

FOS is really the most active beneficial property in this syrup that will help you lose weight. It not only increases your metabolism rate, but it also suppresses your appetite throughout the day. If you have been trying to lose weight for some time now, you will probably agree with me that the hardest part of your fitness regime is to ignore the hunger pangs and cravings that come with regulating your food intake. Well, with the Yacon molasses, you no longer have to struggle with this as taking one tablespoon will leave you feeling full enough to wait for the next meal. What is more, FOS is resistant to the enzymes that would normally break down sugar, and instead reaches the colon without undergoing digestion. This is because the sugar molecules are connected in such a way that makes them undetectable by the enzymes in the digestive system.

Administration

Yacon syrup is a thick liquid that I found tastes like raisins and actually motivates you to take it as required since I found the taste particularly sweet. Other people may not find it as sweet depending on their taste buds, but it is definitely a taste that you can manage. The proper way of taking this syrup is one tablespoon with or before meals. This is so that it can prepare your digestive system for the food that will pass through in a while.

You do not however have to restrict yourself to this routine, as there are other ingenious ways you can take it. Instead of puting sugar in your tea or coffee in the morning, why not put in one table spoon of yacon syrup?  When making waffles or pancakes, you can substitute for the usual sugar, as well as to oatmeal or fruit for a healthy and delicious taste.

Types of Yacon Syrup

Just like other natural products in the market, not all are the same, because of the composition of ingredients. When buying yacon syrup, always make sure you read the labels to get the one that is 100% pure organic. Any brands that claim to be cheaper are likely to use impure supplements and are made by companies only out to make a quick buck out of the health craze that is happening at the moment. In fact, the best brands are always on high demand because everyone wants a piece of the real thing.

Why Should You Try It?

I am never aroused by all the quick weight loss gimmicks that claim to help you lose weight without much work, but even I have to admit that yacon syrup may be different. Science and research can almost always be trusted to give the most accurate information about a product, and in this case Dr. Oz’s study group of 60 female viewers was my motivation. They were required to take a tablespoon of yacon syrup with or before breakfast, lunch and dinner. This was supposed to go on consistently for four weeks but only 40 of the women successfully completed the program. Note that during this time there was no change in lifestyle or dietary changes.

When it was discovered that 29 women actually lost some weight while 14 women lost 5 lbs. or more, I knew I had to try it out. The average weight lost by all the participants was 3 lbs. and not to forget the 1.9 inch reduction in waste size. This might not seem like much for some people out there, but for someone who is trying to lose some weight, posting such results is considered an achievement.

Other benefits of the yacon syrup during another study were a reduction in the Body Mass Index from 34 to 28 which basically meant that obese women lost some weight and moved into the overweight category. The stool frequency also increased from 0.28 per day to 0.99 per day, eliminating constipated. The insulin levels went down by 42% which is good news for diabetics, and insulin resistance went down by 67%.

Possible Side Effects

There are many top rated brands of fat burners in the market, and most are associated with scary side effects. The reason why they almost always result in undesirable results is because they are made of chemicals that do not always work with your body systems towards a common goal. It is as a result of such scenarios that organic products are the best choice for health conscious individuals these days as people are concerned about their health.

Just like other natural products such as honey, taking yacon syrup is not likely to result in any side effects. However, since it is closely related to the sunflower plant, if you are allergic to the latter, you may also have an allergic reaction to yacon syrup.

Consuming too much yacon molasses may not be a good idea regardless of the non-existent side effects. The side effects would be same as when you take too much soluble fiber. Expect to have excessive gas production when you have too much yacon syrup in your intestine. This almost always leads to nausea, flatulence, diarrhea and discomfort. It goes without saying that you should avoid taking yacon molasses if you already have a running stomach for one reason or another.
